Find retailers with Local Fish Store Locator

Find your nearest fish store with a click of your mouse

Readers based in North America might want to take a look at Local Fish Store Locator, a new website that enables you to find your nearest aquatic crack house retailer.

The site looks a bit unfinished around the edges (the Abous Us page is currently blank, for example) but the central functionality seems pretty operational.

You can search by American states, then drill down into cities within those states to get street level addresses of local fish stores. It’s all cleanly presented, and very easy-to-use.

I can think of other functions Local Fish Store Locator might consider adding in the future:

  • A Google maps mash-up, so you can get directions to the store
  • Automatic distance information, so you can find the nearest store to you
  • More powerful searching tools, enabling you to look for the nearest supplier of coral frags or Malawian cichlids, or whatever you fancy

Obviously the site needs to walk before it can run, though.

Being based in the UK I’ve no way of telling how accurate the fish store information the site supplies is. On that note, I wonder if the owners have any plans to launch their site in Europe or elsewhere?

Aquadaily,
Thank you for featuring us on your blog! The acceptance of LFSLocator.com has been awesome in the aquarium hobby and industry. You are correct; the site is not quite finished, but we are looking for a full blown launch in about a week or so.

Stores that pay for a Premium Listing do get a Google map in addition to their Premium store listing. You can see a sample here.

In addition to what you see on the site now, here are some other features we are adding:
Hobbyists will have the ability to login and create their own personal profile and “favorite” their local stores. When their store updates their page with a new sale or promotion, those hobbyists will be notified via email! Special sales and promotions for LFSLocator users are highly recommended.
In addition, the LFS will be able to see who has “favorited” them, and they will be able to view their profile and learn more about their customer.

All the tools, marketing, and support are all geared to accomplish our ongoing goal: to bring local fish stores and hobbyists together like never before. We believe in supporting local economy, and community.

A LFSlocator sites for Canada and Europe are on their way! Please stay tuned and keep in touch as there are some really exciting things to come! P.S. The About Us page will be back a little later today!

Thank you again for your support,

Clay Taylor

Thanks for stopping by and commenting Clay. Very interesting to see the Internet being used to support bricks-and-mortar retailing.

Good luck with it all :)

Nice resource and, for Chicagoland at least, quite thorough.
